Corn Maze!

Corn Maze!

Betsy invited us to the Corn Dawgs Corn Maze in Loganville for her birthday. We got to spend lots of quality time with Gabby and Peter. Thanks to Gabby we have some photos from the day since my cell doesn’t take great night time photos. We had a lot of fun! The whole place is like an adult-sized playground, with giant swings, climbing obstacles, bouncy pillow pads and of course, the corn! I ended up pushing the giant tube-swing with 4 adults on it and two children inside. What a workout! That night, we navigated both the medium and hard mazes, while completing scavenger hunts to increase the difficulty. We also played in the corn pit (imagine a huge ball-pit filled with corn) with lots of our friends. We were finding corn kernels and husk for days. We also picked up another pumpkin for Halloween. It was the freshest I had seen all October, and its seeds were delicious!

Fall around us

Fall around us

We are lucky to live in such a unique area! We are a quick drive to Smyrna and Marietta’s town squares, the covered bridge area and multiple beautiful hiking and fishing spots. The leaves started turning their fall colors and the rain finally picked up, so we grabbed the camera and went to the covered bridge, park, and GB’s Lake. Apparently some ducklings hatched recently, so momma-bird was pretty territorial against the other ducks and geese in the park that day.

Kennesaw State Park Summer Hike

Kennesaw State Park Summer Hike

We hadn’t done much hiking this summer due to the heat, but decided one afternoon to try a different part of Kennesaw State Park (since it’s close by). Overall, it ended up being a pretty flat hike where we walked past lots of battlefields. We even saw a deer in part of the woods. The view from the Illinois memorial is beautiful, overlooking the sprawling battlefield. Even though it was hot, the park has some nice scenery.

Smokey Mountain Anniversary Trip

Smokey Mountain Anniversary Trip

For our 5 year wedding anniversary, we took a trip to Bryson NC. We got a great deal on staying at a Watershed Resort cabin. The cabin was wonderfully decorated and had a lot of fun extras! The town is adorable, although it shuts down really early. We went hiking and saw multiple waterfalls. We lucked out with the weather; it was suppose to rain the whole time but we got a break during the day. Not only is the city really cute and friendly but the police really go above and beyond. Our GPS wasn’t working and we couldn’t find the grocery store, and when I asked for directions the police instead drove us all the way to the store. Thanks to him we made it before it closed and got to cook in our cabin. I swear this trip we constantly kept getting turned around without our GPS, but we ended up finding really beautiful spots that made it worth it. We took the road to nowhere and it was absolutely gorgeous!

Protip: Download all the GPS maps on your phone before hand (no data signal), once we did that my phone worked so much better.

Hilton Head 2015

Hilton Head 2015

This past summer, Adams parents invited us on a trip to Hilton Head Island. It was the first time Stefanie had ever visited Hilton Head. Since it was after Jasmine had passed away, we weren’t feeling 100% ourselves, but did our best to enjoy it. We ended up riding bikes on the beach, going swimming in the hotel heated pool and lots of bird watching.

We got to visit Pinckney Island and Adams parents joined us. There were so many birds in the park, I didn’t want to leave! It was apparently breeding season. Several fledglings could be seen, some still in their nests. I kept practicing taking photos and even lucked out and got some nice shots!

Sweetwater Creek 2 Weeks in a ROW!

Sweetwater Creek 2 Weeks in a ROW!

Don’t get me wrong I love this park. We decided to take my friend Radha to Sweetwater since she loved the photos I took and wanted to see it for herself. We headed out to the park and explored the Yellow and Orange Trails, along with going on a smaller trail along the creek to get shots like this.

Sweetwater Mill

We went WAY off trail looking for a shortcut to the Indian cave, but after much climbing we got back to the Yellow Trail. Deciding to explore some more in hopes of interesting photos, we checked out the Orange Trail. It’s so new, it’s not even on the map! It felt like it went on forever. Then all of the sudden we start seeing light blue blazings. We got LOST! There wasn’t a soul in sight. Luckily, we had cell service so we called asking for help. We found our way BACK on the Yellow, saw a really sweet couple who took our I SURVIVED THE ORANGE TRAIL photos.

WE SURVIVED

After we finished the Yellow and Orange trails we walked the first half of the Red trail so Radha could see the mill up close. We ended up hiking for over 6 HOURS! Yea, my feet and especially my ankles felt it. The boots I got from REI did a number on my ankles. They still haven’t healed up yet.

The very next day, my mother calls me at the office and asks if she can visit. She wanted to go hiking with us but on something easy but pretty. First thought was Sweetwater but we had just gone. I looked up online and in my falcon guide for any ideas. Just none seemed to offer as much, so Sweetwater it was.

We took my parents along the red trail. The first half of the red trail is easy. Since my mom has a bad hip we had two options, to continue on the white trail, which isn’t as scenic or continue on the red trail which is difficult but far more picturesque. My mom was feeling adventurous, so we went on the red. It was tough but she made it all the way to the end.

The creek seemed like it was about a foot higher than we had seen before. The water current was extremely fast. So many flowers were in bloom that we didn’t see last week. Overall we had a good hike. Enjoy the rest of the photos!
